VIVA! EL PASO CELEBRATES 40 YEARS AT MCKELLIGON CANYON

Viva! El Paso is a summer tradition that celebrates 400 years of El Paso’s unique history through song, dance, costuming and drama. This summer, Viva! El Paso celebrates 40 years!
The historical extravaganza returns for 14 shows June 16 through July 29 at the McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre. Performances will be on Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM. The July 21 and 22 shows will be performed in Spanish.
The Franklin Mountains provide a naturally beautiful backdrop for Viva! El Paso, which was created by Hector Serrano in 1978 as a musical pageant depicting four centuries of the El Paso area’s history.
El Paso Community College’s Keith W. Townsend is in his second year as the show’s director. This year’s season will feature popular segments as well as new dances, an updated script by Tony Award-winning playwright Marty Martin, and new songs by Jim Ward and Gabriel Gonzalez.
Live mariachis return with Mariachi Paso Del Norte and EPCC’s Mariachi Real De El Paso. Also, this year marks the debut of a new group of young performers, VIVA Kids, led by Margaret Barreras.
“I am very excited to be leading this group of talented performing artists,” Townsend said. “We promise to bring a show audiences will enjoy and be proud of.”
Discount tickets for opening weekend performances on June 16-17 are only $10. Tickets for all other performances are $20 for adults, $12 for children ages 2-12, seniors 65 and older and military with a valid ID.
Viva! El Paso tickets go on sale to the general public on Thursday, May 4 at 10AM. Tickets may be purchased at ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, charge-by-phone at 800-745-3000 and the Plaza Theatre Box Office.
